Piazza Food

No need to live on the seashore to enjoy a nice Terrace! The italians, for example, have the "Piazza", small squares built around fountains, statues or even pleasant sightseeings. Nested here and there the "Piazza" are the places you unexpectedly run into while strolling amongst the sidestreets. For some reason they are often associated with the presence of a café or some sort of eatery. But make no mistake! We are not talking about the overcrowded main squares packed with expensive and tourist oriented restaurants. No, here we're dealing with the little pizzeria you discovered, walking your kids on a saturday morning, the one whose ivy on the facade caught your eye, the one whose simple black board inscription made you hungry. The type of place you'll definitely remember while running through your last trip's photos! Of course the service wasn't perfect but the relaxed atmosphere totally made up for it. The food, slow to come, wasn't fancy but definitely homemade and delicious...I'd like to invite each of you to describe your own piazza moment with details and adresses. I'll start here...

The artist area in Lyon is located on this plateau called "La Croix rousse", from there you pretty much dominate the whole city. But on one of its little square, the sightseeing is remarquably spectacular. Nothing special but a paved empty place, a kindergarden and of course a restaurant. The Montana is indeed a Berbere joint which only serve Couscous, Tajine and grilled meat. The lay out and service is very simple. They present the tajines in clay pots, the meat on a metal tray and the couscous on a glass bowl, nothing fancy really. Although the flavour of some of the dishes is fragrant. The lamb in the eggplant tajine i had was tender at melting point and the couscous seeds were really thin but not sticky. The meat was extremely well aromatized with arabic spices. It's more the overall impression that makes this restaurant so pleasant rather than just the food. The simple fact that you're seated on a large terrace, surrounded by locals and residents here to enjoy the view makes it special. The place is very peaceful so you feel elsewhere than in Lyon. Sometimes it's how a restaurant fits in its environement and how it fulffills your expectations that makes it worthy more than the strict quality of food and services...

Those pages are now opened to you, share your Piazza moment, the restaurant that stroke your mind during your a voyage or the one just around the corner where you live...
